Additional Palm Centro White Phone (AT&T) Information

Life starts after five o'clock. Not coincidentally, that's also when the Palm Centro smartphone comes alive. Not only does the Palm Centro handle all your favorite voice functions, but it also offers text, IM, e-mail, and web access--all in a body that's a lot smaller than you'd think. Add a 1.3-megapixel camera, 64 MB of internal memory, Bluetooth connectivity for headsets, MicroSD expansion, and a full QWERTY keyboard and you have a terrific smartphone for all your messaging and personal needs. You'll be able to get to where you're going fast with support for TeleNav GPS Navigator software (which requires an optional Bluetooth GPS receiver). And this quad-band GSM version of the Centro for AT&T also features walkie talkie-style Push to Talk (PTT) communication in addition to voice dialing and speakerphone capabilities. The integrated Palm OS 5.4.9 operating system also plays nicely with Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.2 and higher.

The Palm Centro's full QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to type text messages, IMs, and e-mails.

AT&T Service
This phone operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. The AT&T Mobile Music platform includes the ability to sideload music with Napster and eMusic with the built-in Pocket Tunes Deluxe application, listen to live radio with XM Radio Mobile, discover new songs with MusicID and more. You can also access XM Radio Mobile, which provides 25 of the best XM Radio channels, featuring commercial-free rock, hip-hop, country, jazz and more (additional monthly fee; free three-day trial included).

With a database of more than 3 million artists and titles, you can use MusicID to identify an unknown song. While holding the Centro up to a speaker, the MusicID application returns song information such as title, artist and cover art, if available. It also keeps track of previous IDs and allows users to share song information with friends via text messages (additional monthly fee; free three-day trial included).

It's also MobiTV capable, which enables you to watch live television, premium and prime-time programming, video-on-demand clips and satellite and digital music services from the top broadcast and cable television networks and major music labels (additional monthly charges are applicable).

You can take advantage of the TeleNav GPS Navigator software, the full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps. It comes as a 30-day trial version, and it can be downloaded via the TeleNav web site or via virtual pre-load icon (VPL) after activation.

You can also instantly talk across the largest Push to Talk (PTT) network coverage area in America. Push to Talk works like a walkie-talkie to talk to an individual or a group of up to 29 users. With status icons that clearly indicate the availability of friends and family, Push to Talk customers will know who is free before they call. What Customers Say About Palm Centro White Phone (AT&T):

Bug ridden system stops communication with the touch screen and keyboard, continually rendering the phone unfunctional. This phone is a complete piece of crap. Let alone the fact that it sucks an entire battery in a half day. While it has plenty of shiney little features to keep you occupied for a short time, it has a clunky interface, a jerky touch screen that pretty much MANDATES the use of the stylus, your finger is too large to accurately push anything on the screen, and a bug ridden OS that makes Windows look like a dream. I have had my phone replaced twice, this time I am just throwing the piece of crap away and buying something else. What a complete and utter waste of money. Get a black berry.

Forget about browsing the web on this phone, you will want to destroy it. I like the white color because it is very easy to find. It is small and fits nicely in my back jeans pocket. The touch screen is very responsive.

Not a big deal to me. I have had this phone for almost a year. I have found the yellow pages the ONLY useful part of using the web in this phone. This phone is not too Smart but it looks great. The battery life is good and the reception is good.

Although it gives you options to personalize your home page, you cant get rid of the crap they put on there. ps; If anyone has suggestions on using the web on this phone please comment to this message. I am female with average size fingers and find that I hit the wrong buttons frequently when texting due to the small buttons. Colors are good. The reason I gave this such a low rating is because using the WEB on this phone is AWEFUL.

It is slower than dial-up and the app (included on phone) for internet is terrible. Pictures are okay and video is not so good. Thanks

This was my first smart phone. However, after 3 months the phones then took on a life of their own. not to mention the 30 extra bucks per phone line for web service that was so slow it made dial up look like a jet plane. in the middle of a call. I paid out the yin yang for these phones (my husband and I both got one his in black). The first day naturally it was a new gadget and I was thrilled with it although the set up is a little annoying to get use to. I got this phone when they first started to get "big" (a little over a year or so ago). They would shut down with out warning.

We replaced the phones hoping it was just a glitch through our warranty (luckily it was still active), but it was the same exact deal all over again. Both of them. They worked fine for 3 months and then down hill they went again. My advice DO NOT waste your money or test your patience with these phones. It worked well and did it's job fairly well. unfortunately it's not so smart after all. untouched on the nightstand it didn't matter.

Other than those basic facts the phone was fine. (with the exception of sending any and all ring tones to the mp3 player and making them unavailable for ring tone use.). They started rejecting calls, refusing to send out text messages, freezing up to the point of having to take the battery out to restart the device. Hope this helps.

As I used it more, I began to see the flaws, and now I'm hating it, after wanting more. One of the biggest flaws is the keyboard. doesn't have an onscreen keyboard. So, expecting not to charge your phone for another month because you hardly left your old one on. It goes on standby. It's something you might want to laugh at. A second later or two, it comes back on.

It's very tiny and difficult to type, it just frustrates me. It's too glossy and metal. You can click all of those buttons, even use an onscreen numberpad, but no onscreen keyboard. My God, I'm glad I have nails as a man male or I'd have difficulty using the ends of my fingers to type. There's a button I sometimes click, which I forgot since I haven't had the error before, and it exists out.

The buttons are around the size of a ballpoint pen tip. well, kitten. Also, I don't want to explain it.Also, you can't turn this phone off. And to be honest, I was so excited when I received it that I was happy to show my cat. No way to exit except disconnecting your battery MIGHT work.I also dislike the material the phone is made out of. My God.With all the touchscreen phones with an onscreen keyboard, it's hilarious that this touchscreen phone with a pointer or styler or whatever you may call it. :) The phone is still a great phone. I had to take back my phone about twice after a few months until I finally got lucky and it no longer does this error.

When having this product ordered, I had high hopes for it. It's just a bad mix in my opinion. but it's alright so no points taken off. You hold the off button, and it says "Phone off." meaning you can't receive messages or calls. I'm not sure how common it is, but if you touch the ends of the phone where you connect the charger, and your finger has natural moisture or maybe you poured a gallon of mineral oil on your hand, (in that case, it's your fault) your phone will think you're trying to connect to the computer. I enjoy the messaging and how all the texts of one contact is put into one place like a chat conversation, I enjoy the touchscreen phone numeral pad, I enjoy the high quality camera and video and connecting it to my computer to upload it. You don't need to turn it on, and probably even take it out of the package to see how small the keyboard is. It's great for your buck.

Especially iwth the tiny keyboard, that would have been helpful.I've had many problems with this phone and it's Hotsync feature which I hardly have a clue about. There's no way to get out of it. Well, you're screwed. If it's more than $80, you shouldn't get it.

Having used 3 Windows Mobile phones, iPhone, Balckberry Storm, Palm Treo 755p & Nokia E51, I think Centro is closest to the ideal smartphone but AT&T network does not hold water to Verizon Wirelss network in reliability.1. Brisk, peppy response and rarely locks up or freezes.5. Ideal weight for a phone is less than 100 gms.3. Web browser is fast for mobile sites but otherwise barely functional - Internet is available but browsing is not enjoyable like on iPhone. Top-notch contact, calendar and memos management.4.

Instead of micro-USB or mini-USB, it uses proprietary cable which is hard to take out. Blackberry Storm has a gorgeous screen and excellent email device but has very buggy software and constantly freezes. Blackberries shine when it comes to email.3. Reasonable size & weight (119 gms) and is pocketable and you have to carry phone with you all the time.

Solid, reliable phone.2. Google style but not stylish, fun & glamorous like iPhone & Mac. iPhone is the best MP3, video and multimedia player, has the best user interface and mobile browser experience but is abysmal as a phone in comparison to Verizon Centro. The style is simple, unadorned and functional a.k.a. I have not been able to sync over Bluetooth or use Bluetooth modem. But there is scope for improvement, it could be lighter and thinner.

Symbian based Nokia phones are fairly decent smartphones but their availability on US cellular carriers is very limited. Good QWERTY keyboard.7. As of March 2009, I think Palm Centro is one of the best smartphones available. Camera is bare minimum at 1.3 Megapixels and music function is basic with 2.5 mm audio jack. Font size is small and has to be individually adjusted in each application. Here is my Gestalt on smartphones.1.

AT&T has poor network signal and coverage, the calls drop all the time and sound on iPhone is average.2.

Fairly decent availability of applications.8.

Verizon Wireless, the best network in US, has none.In my experience Palm operating system is one of the most trusty and functional smartphone operating systems.

Clear sound.

Centro is supposedly the last in the Palm lineage phones.

A-one Microsoft office document functionality with Documents-to-Go.6.

Functions well as a tethered modem with cable and speed in 800-900 Kbs range on Verizon Wireless network.10.Synchronizes calendar, contacts and memos with Macbook.11.Good SMS function: threads messages. But Centro is not without flaws: the default OK button is on Voicemail and dials Voicemail unintentionally.

Windows Mobile phones are horrendous: packed with features that don't work and smartphone operating system is the most unreliable.4.

I would recommend it if you need a solid, trustworthy smartphone, but on Verizon, not on AT&T.
